A.H. Romero is currently a third year graduate student at San Diego State University under the Masters in Fine Art program. His emphasis is in Painting and Printmaking. As a graduate student he has had the fortune of displaying work in San Diego and Los Angeles including the SDSU Veterans Resource Center and The Pomona Museum of Latin American Art.
His current body of work is based on photographs and memories of a deployment to Iraq from 2007 to 2008. The work consists of creating paintings through the use of these photos and experiences by incorporating a process developed in which the base medium is oil paint, cold wax, gun powder including elements from old uniforms. Using a limited color palette on custom built wooden panels he creates hauntingly ethereal images. The collection of photographs that are the basis of the paintings were taken by Romero or he was physically within the vicinity of where they were taken during combat operations.
